Overview
Astore is the 'land of pastures': a green, forested valley on the eastern side of Nanga Parbat, far quieter than the highway towns. Rama, a short drive above Astore, is a broad meadow ringed by pine, cedar and juniper with Rama Lake higher up.
This short journey adds a day to the Rupal valley for views of Nanga Parbat's great southern face, and a visit to Rattu, before returning to Gilgit.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in Gilgit
Arrival and briefing.
Overnight: Gilgit
Day 2
Gilgit to Astore
South on the Karakoram Highway and up the Astore valley. Timing varies with road and weather conditions.
Overnight: Astore or Rama
Day 3
Rama Lake
A half-day walk from the meadow up to Rama Lake and back.
Overnight: Rama
Day 4
Rupal valley
By jeep into the Rupal valley for views of Nanga Parbat.
Overnight: Astore
Day 5
Rattu and return
Morning in Rattu, then back to Gilgit.
Overnight: Gilgit
Day 6
Depart Gilgit
Flight or road onward.

Important notes and restrictions
- The walk to Rama Lake is uphill at altitude; it can be shortened to the meadow only.
