Journey · Ghizer, Ishkoman valley

Ghizer is the westernmost district of Gilgit-Baltistan, a land of wide valleys, trout streams and small lakes running towards the Shandur Pass. It sees far fewer visitors than Hunza, and its villages speak Shina, Khowar, Burushaski and Wakhi.
The journey follows the Ghizer river upstream: through Puniyal, known locally as the fruit basket of the region, past Gupis and Khalti Lake, to Phander, where the river slows into a quiet lake surrounded by willows. A side trip into the Ishkoman valley adds glaciers and high pastures.
