Ginani marks the ripening of the first wheat in Hunza and Nagar, a thanksgiving rooted in times when a failed harvest could mean a hungry winter. It is usually held in June, often around the summer solstice, with gatherings near Baltit Fort in Karimabad.
Celebrations include traditional music and dance, ceremonial gathering of the new wheat and sharing of food among those present. Visitors watch respectfully as guests of the community, with a local guide to explain what is happening.
