Since the 1990s, community organisations in Hunza have worked to revive local crafts and turn them into income, particularly for women. Embroidery, carpet weaving and woodwork have all been part of this, and women-run workshops now operate in both central and upper Hunza.
The visit takes in a carpet-weaving centre in Gulmit, where Wakhi women weave by hand, and a craft workshop in the Karimabad area. Visitors see work in progress, learn about patterns and materials, and can buy directly from the makers.
