A one-way traverse from Gilgit through the Astore valley and Rama, over the Deosai plateau and down to Skardu.

Overview
This route enters Deosai from the west. From the Karakoram Highway south of Gilgit, the Astore road climbs into the Astore valley on the eastern side of Nanga Parbat, with a side trip to the Rama meadows. From Astore it continues to Chilim and onto the plateau past Sheosar Lake, before descending past Sadpara to Skardu.
Travellers describe the road to Rama as passable for ordinary vehicles, but the climb from Chilim onto Deosai as steep, rough and better suited to four-wheel drive. It is a summer-only traverse. Timing varies with road and weather conditions.

Arrival and briefing.
Overnight: Gilgit

Gilgit to Astore
South on the Karakoram Highway and up the Astore road. Timing varies with road and weather conditions.

Day 3
Rama
Short ride to Rama and back.
Overnight: Astore
Day 4
Astore to Chilim
Up the valley to Chilim.
Overnight: Chilim area (to be confirmed)
Day 5
Chilim across Deosai to Skardu
Onto the plateau past Sheosar Lake and down via Sadpara to Skardu.
Overnight: Skardu Highest point: 4,250 m

Skardu

- A one-way route: the return from Skardu (by road or air) needs separate planning.
- Astore roads are reported as landslide-prone in the rainy season.
