Overview
From Gilgit, the capital of Gilgit-Baltistan, the Karakoram Highway climbs north into the Hunza valley, passing Rakaposhi (7,788 m) on the Nagar side before reaching Aliabad and Karimabad. It is the most travelled riding route in the region and the natural start of most northern itineraries.
The concept spreads the ride over relaxed days with time in Karimabad at the end, and can be run as the first leg of a longer route to Gojal or Khunjerab. The highway is mostly paved but subject to landslides. Timing varies with road and weather conditions.
