Hunza to Khunjerab

This is the classic high road of Gilgit-Baltistan. From Karimabad the Karakoram Highway runs through the Attabad tunnels, past Gulmit and the Passu Cones, to the border post at Sost, then climbs through Khunjerab National Park to the pass at about 4,693 m on the Pakistan–China border.

The highway is paved, but altitude and cold are the real challenges near the top, and the pass is seasonal. The concept builds in a night in Gojal before the pass day to break the climb. The ride turns around at the pass and does not cross into China. Timing varies with road and weather conditions.
