Overview
Skardu, the main town of Baltistan, sits on the Indus at about 2,226 m. North of it, a road crosses into the Shigar valley, the traditional gateway towards the Baltoro, where Shigar Fort stands among fields and orchards in a cold-desert landscape.
This concept uses Skardu as a base for an easy ride to Shigar and short local rides, including Kharpocho Fort viewpoints and the sand dunes of the Skardu basin. It pairs naturally with the Gilgit–Skardu road or the Khaplu ride. Timing varies with road and weather conditions.

Skardu
Arrival, briefing and a short ride around Skardu.
Overnight: Skardu
Day 2
Skardu to Shigar
Ride into the Shigar valley, time at the fort, overnight in Shigar. Timing varies with road and weather conditions.

Shigar to Skardu
Return to Skardu via the desert viewpoints; trip ends.
