The Minapin route is the most direct way to stand beneath Rakaposhi. The trail climbs out of the orchards of Minapin, just off the Karakoram Highway in Nagar, through pine and juniper to the camping ground at Hapakun, then up a lateral moraine to the meadow known locally as Tagaphari.
From the base camp the Minapin Glacier spills almost to your feet, with Rakaposhi and Diran rising above it. Fit walkers can extend the stay with a day out towards Diran Base Camp, which involves crossing the glacier and is best done with a local guide.
Day 1
Leave Minapin on foot and climb steadily through fields and then forest to the Hapakun camping ground.
Overnight: Camp at Hapakun Highest point: 2,950 m
Day 2
A steep climb along the moraine above the Minapin Glacier brings you to the base camp meadow. Afternoon to rest and take in the views.
Overnight: Camp at Tagaphari
Day 3
Return by the same trail to Minapin, taking care on the steep and sometimes loose sections below Hapakun.
Overnight: Guesthouse in Minapin or onward to Hunza
