Terraces and glacier water in Passu

In the dry, deep valleys of Gojal, farming depends on water brought from glaciers and snowmelt through long hand-built channels. Passu's fields sit on river terraces at around 2,500 metres, a green patch between the Passu and Batura glaciers.

Walking the terraces with a local guide shows how water is shared between households, how the channels are maintained, and how retreating glaciers are changing what can be grown. It is a quiet, grounded way to understand how communities have lived here for generations.
