The Haramosh valley climbs north from the Indus gorge east of Gilgit. A rough track serves the lower villages, and from Iskere a trail continues past the Mani Glacier to Kutwal, a lake set in meadows and forest beneath the great walls of Haramosh.
It is far less visited than Fairy Meadows or the Hunza treks and gives a strong sense of remoteness without very high altitude. Strong walkers sometimes continue towards the Haramosh La, but that is a serious glacier crossing outside the scope of this sample.
Day 1
Leave the Skardu road at Sassi and travel up the Haramosh valley, by jeep where the track allows and then on foot, to Iskere. Timing varies with road and weather conditions.
Overnight: Camp or homestay at Iskere
Day 2
Continue up-valley past the Mani Glacier to the lake.
Overnight: Camp at Kutwal Lake Highest point: 3,260 m
Day 3
Morning at the lake for reflections, then walk back down to Iskere.
Overnight: Camp or homestay at Iskere
Day 4
Return down the valley to the Skardu road for onward travel.
