Overview
The Ultar meadow lies directly behind Karimabad, at the foot of the Ultar glacier and the steep walls of Ultar Sar and Ladyfinger Peak. The trail leaves from near Baltit Fort and follows an irrigation channel into the gorge before climbing to the shepherds' huts.
It makes an excellent first or acclimatisation day in Hunza, with avalanches often audible from the glacier in summer. The opening section is steep and can be slippery, so good footwear matters.

Karimabad to Ultar meadow and back
Follow the water channel into the canyon, climb to the meadow and shepherds' huts, then return the same way to Karimabad.

Important notes and restrictions
- The first section is steep and can be slippery; not ideal after rain.
- Rockfall and avalanche debris can affect the upper gorge; keep to the guide's line.
